Toughened Glass (Tempered Glass)

Toughened glass, also known as tempered glass, is a type of safety glass processed through controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared to normal glass. It is widely used in both residential and industrial applications due to its durability and safety features.

 Properties of Toughened Glass

• Strength: Approximately 4-5 times stronger than annealed (ordinary) glass.

• Safety: Breaks into small, blunt-edged fragments, reducing the risk of injury.

• Heat Resistance: Can withstand high temperatures (up to 250°C) and sudden thermal shocks.

• Durability: Resistant to scratches, impacts, and bending stress.

• Transparency: Maintains excellent optical clarity.

 Manufacturing Process

• Heating: Glass is heated to a temperature of approximately 650°C (1202°F).

• Rapid Cooling: It is then cooled rapidly (quenched) using air jets, creating compressive stress on the surface and tensile stress inside, which enhances its strength.

Clear Toughened Glass 

• Transparent and commonly used.

• Suitable for windows, doors, and partitions.

Frosted Toughened Glass

• Acid-etched or sandblasted to create a frosted appearance.

• Used for privacy screens and decorative applications.

Colored or Tinted Toughened Glass

• Coated or infused with pigments for aesthetic appeal.

Laminated Toughened Glass

• A combination of toughened glass and a plastic interlayer (PVB or EVA).

• Used in applications requiring both strength and soundproofing.
